oh, not again!
Yes, again. And this time just shortly after the loss of Bruno.
We have a small fishpond in the back yard. Last year... or was it two years ago... I don't remember which. Anyway, I came home from work to go feed them and noticed that they were all gone. Vanished. I looked to signs of a raccoon, and there are none. No mess, no scales, no nothing. Just gone.
I suspect that a heron or sea gull flew overhead and saw a tasty meal in the form of 6 goldfish in a small pond and decided it was time for the in-flight meal.
So, they're gone. All gone. And the irony? I've been working diligently to filter out the water to make it clear. It's clear now. That clear water sure makes the fish easy to see and nice to watch -- apparently not just to people.
So this week we've lost two of four indoor fish, and six of six outdoor fish. And of the two that survived, I'm not so thrilled about one of them.
I never thought I'd ever be so attached to fish, but shucks, I really like the little guys.
I guess it's time I picked up a few scarecrows, which I'll post about again later when I blog about those meddling kids.

That's a shame
Oddly enough - my parents never suffered losses like that to their koi pond - but after they moved the pond did get some attention from a larger predator.
A bear found its way to the pond, and a tasty meal. Not sure how many he got before he was shoo'd off, but the pics are kinda scary. It was just a few months after moving that the bear showed up. The new owners were probably wondering what the hell they'd gotten themselves into...
Not all of them perished!
